About Mandy Cai
In the years leading up to my pregnancy, I wasn't sure if I'd ever become a mother - I was worried about repeating the same patterns of pain I experienced as a child and carried fear of passing along genetic predispositions of depression and addiction.
But life had it's own plans and I found myself married to the best man I'd ever known. Starting a family with him felt natural.
We welcomed our daughter, Ella, in February 2020 through a hospital water birth that both healed me and broke me wide open. Through this first birth, I became mesmerised and in awe of the transformative power of our physiology as mothers.
Our son, Ralph, was born in August 2022 also through a hospital water birth. Through trauma experienced through this birth, I was humbled to deeply understand how previous experiences of trauma can impact childbirth and how birth trauma impacts all other aspects of motherhood.
Becoming a mother has been the most challenging, painful, overwhelming and intense period of my life. It has also been the the most profound, illuminating, wholehearted, joyful and transformational.
At the centre of all of this mess and magic has been the healing of my history of childhood, sexual and birth trauma. Through mending my heart, reconnecting with my body, bringing awareness to my thoughts and breathing life into my spirit - I now experience the kind of life I didn't know was possible:
I'm now the mother I've always wanted, needed and dreamed of.
I now live a life I no longer want to escape from but find beauty in moments of presence, courage to be my authentic self and confidence about who I am as a mother.
Motherhood is hard and when you have a history of trauma, motherhood presents unique challenges that can come up in ways that make things feel even more challenging.
It's my hope that through sharing the wisdom I've gained along this journey of healing and knowledge as a Certified Birth Educator, I can guide you in your preparation for birth and motherhood that leads you to feel empowered, safe and confident. It would be an honour to get to know you and learn how I can support you in this season of becoming.
